Newark High School had a tough battle against Mount Pleasant during the homecoming game, resulting in a Mount Pleasant win. The score ended with a final score of 14-32, however our captain Jason Henn had this to say after the game, “The game was closer than the score shows.”
While it may have resulted in a loss, there were many little wins that were made on the field. Robert Daniels and Keon Black were able to each score a touchdown to put points on the board for Newark, Mia Carew successfully converted on two extra point attempts, and freshman player Evan Earl was able to play in the game resulting in a 20 yard play.
When speaking on freshman Evan Earl’s first appearance, a senior football player, Marques Hunt says, “He’s very productive for the opportunities that he is given so far, looks like he’s going to be a great player down the line.”
While it may have been a loss for the Yellowjackets, they continued to have a positive outlook on the game as captain Jason Henn said, “Watch how the rest of the season goes, every loss makes us stronger for the next game.”
That is exactly how it played out in the next game. As the Yellowjackets faced off against Delcastle High School, the game resulted in a tight score of 23-22, and the Jackets were able to secure a victory against Delcastle on their homecoming night.
A solid game all around from all of the Jackets led to their victory that night. Many highlights from the game include a 50 yard touchdown on the first play of the game by Marques Hunt, a fumble leading to a touchdown in the 3rd quarter, and a 25 yard run leading to a touchdown from Keyon Black. This was a great victory for the Yellowjackets and could be the start they need for the rest of their season.
