The Newark Yellow Jackets had an impressive showing at the Blue Hen Conference wrestling championships, with three of our athletes earning top honors. Diego Diaz fought with determination to secure a well-deserved third-place finish, showing off his relentless work ethic and skill on the mat. Christian Zavala matched that feat, also capturing third place after a series of tough matches. William Garvine rounded out the group with an eighth-place finish, proving that even on the toughest days, our athletes never give up. The entire team gave it their all this season, embodying the fierce spirit of the Yellow Jackets with every match. We pushed ourselves to be the best, knowing that the pride of Newark was behind us. From the opening whistle to the final bell, the sting of our tenacity was felt by every opponent. Much like the yellow jackets themselves, our wrestlers were buzzing around the mat, making their mark and reminding everyone that we’re always a force to be reckoned with.

This season wasn’t just about individual victories; it was about building a team that fought with heart and soul. Whether it was a nail-biting comeback or grinding through every minute of a match, the Yellow Jackets never backed down. We showed that the pride of Newark runs deep, and our wrestlers displayed true grit on their way to earning these hard-fought places in the Blue Hen Conference. The entire team was committed to greatness, always pushing each other to new heights. When we take the mat, it’s not just for ourselves, but for the whole Newark community that stands behind us. And as we continue to sting our way to victory, one thing is for sure – this season has set the bar high for what’s to come!

“In life as well as wrestling, it’s always important not to get too high or get too low. Life, like wrestling, can flip on a switch. Celebrate the joys and mourn the losses, but remember neither are permanent. “

“Our guys showed up for conferences and we made a mark. Coaches from other teams commented on our progress and took note of the talent that we are developing in our program. Our place winners are all leaders in the practice room and have all persevered and are reaping the rewards with the honors they have received”
