As we reach the midpoint of the season, we reflect on our journey so far and celebrate the growth and resilience of our Newark Yellow Jacket Cheer team. Our commitment to excellence and teamwork has been evident, and we’re excited to share the progress we’ve made.
Statement from Assistant Cheer Coach Ms. Shyaa Combs:
“The cheerleaders have faced several challenges at the beginning of the season, including changes in positions and captains. These adjustments have positively impacted team morale and contributed to the overall improvement of the squad. As a result, the cheerleaders are now making significant progress, allowing them to reduce their practice time.
The team is eagerly anticipating the arrival of their new uniforms, but they remain committed to presenting themselves at their best in the meantime.
On October 1, 2024, we were fortunate to have several alumni and former cheerleaders attend practice. Their presence provided valuable support in enhancing our cheerleaders’ stunting, strength, and conditioning skills. Additionally, the alumni shared insights on teamwork and the importance of collaboration, which further enriched our training experience.”
Statement from Cheer Captain Janaidah Hayes:
“This season has been unique, featuring many new members who are either new to cheerleading or lack prior high school or football cheer experience. Despite the initial challenges we faced, we have come together as a team and emerged stronger than ever. The bonds we’ve formed are truly special, fostering a sisterhood that has enhanced our teamwork and spirit.
Midway through the season, we underwent a change in leadership. I believe this transition was beneficial and essential for our growth and continued improvement. As we move forward, I am confident that the remainder of the season will be exceptional, and I believe we have the potential to become one of the top teams in the state.”
As we continue our journey, we are excited for what lies ahead. The energy and dedication of the Newark Yellow Jacket Cheer team are palpable, and we look forward to showcasing our new skills and camaraderie in the upcoming performances.
