On Febuary 13, 14 and 15th NHS streamed and preformed the musical called Newsies. There were 3 nights that featured the Pit band and Tech Crew. The main character Jack Kelly who was played by Sabine Breitenbach started a movement along with the Newsies that changed New York for the better. Those children, who aged in years from 4- 16 started a revelation because of how much they should be out playing or in school but they were “slaving to support themselves and their folks.” Said by Jack himself. They were a tiny David taking on Goliath. Goliath was portrayed as Joseph Pulitzer the owner of the World. The actress who played him was Jordan Cintron. This was an action pact musical with fight scenes choreographed by Mia Carew. Dances were choreographed by Joanna Chandler and Caroline Talley. Costumes were managed by Adel Williams.
Edwina Traverse- Richie, who is a teacher at Newark High School exclaimed that, “Those children did a wonderful job and they are very talented. I need to get an autograph from all of my students because of all their hard work that was showcased on those 3 nights. They did an amazing job!”
Robert Walther who played Mush seemed very excited for what the musical had to entail, he said, “Sure lets cook something up. I’m ready for what Mrs. Woolfolk is thinking about doing.”
In conclusion all 3 nights were a success and these teenagers practiced a great amount of time to perform a great show.
